Living the Call Together in the Caribbean: The Dominican Republic

A Ministry of The Alliance

  • John Schleh and Bruce Dyke will be going to Haiti February 24-27, along with representatives of the Dominican National Church, the Puerto Rican National Church, and the Haitian Association (US). Pray for safety, as they try to identify people and churches associated with the C&MA. Also, pray for wisdom for the Dominican National Church, as they seek the best way to help their neighboring country.

  • Thanks to the relief monies from CAMA Services and a generous donation from an acquaintance of Brad & Dorothy Wood, a large supply of tents has been purchased and will be sent to Haiti.

  • Pray for family members of our Alliance churches in Haiti who have been affected by this tragedy. Also, some of our Haitian Alliance church members here in the Dominican Republic have gone to Haiti to find out about family members. Pray for their safety.

  • Pray for wisdom and safety for those responding to the overwhelming need in Haiti--food, water, shelter, medical and spiritual needs.

  • Recently, a team of Dominican pastors and wives, along with John Schleh (Field Director), participated in and received training for beginning the College of Prayer ministry here in the DR. The first prayer event will take place in June 2010. Also, pray for the Dominican Alliance National Church as they have begun a new prayer ministry that involves a nightly 12 – 1 AM television broadcast with a follow-up phone-line counseling team ready to help those in need. Pray for God’s will and wisdom for those who are serving in this ministry to answer the phone calls that come in, and to do the follow up.

  • Praise the Lord for the spiritually rich Field Forum our Alliance missionaries participated in this past month. Dr. Richard and Kathy Brown ministered to us through the Word and music. We also thank the Lord for Pastor Jerry and Pat Witt, our Field’s pastoral care couple, for their intercessory ministry. We came away challenged in our own lives and with renewed passion to reach the Dominican Republic for Christ.

  • Pray for the Alliance Bible Institute (ABI) classes that began January 18th. Brad and Dorothy Wood and Valerie Stellrecht are teaching along with Dominican professors. The Theological Education by Extension classes also began on the 18th. Praise the Lord for the 200 students studying the Word of God this year.

  • Pray for strength and wisdom for Doug and Nancy Carlson, guest house directors. They have entertained 44 guests during the month of January and are expecting about the same for February. Many are traveling to and from Haiti. It is a blessing to be able to serve and be a blessing to each team. Praise the Lord for Doug and Nancy, a retired couple from Watertown, NY, who have served the Lord in the DR as Guest House Operators for the past two years. They not only serve the many short-term mission teams each year, but also minister to the missionaries. Pray for their future plans as they return to the states this summer and pray that God would raise up a couple to take their place in this important ministry.

  • Pray for Jenny and Elvin, a young Dominican couple studying in the Alliance Bible Seminary in Temuco, Chile. They are in their last year and will returning to the DR this year. Pray for their future ministry here in the country and that God would provide for them so that they will finish well.

  • Pray for Mike and Ingrid Baldwin’s neighborhood. There are some sad and dangerous things occurring where they live. Pray for safety and protection over the Baldwins and their neighbors. Pray that they will be a shining light in the darkness and that they will be used of God to bring many to a new life in Christ.

  • The Marriage Encounter follow-up cell that Bruce and Becky Dyke participate in has completed the first book of the series, How to Build Your Marriage. Praise the Lord the couples would like to continue meeting. Pray for Marcos and Carmen. God is speaking to this couple about spiritual things. Pray that they make a decision to accept the Lord.

  • Pray for Val Stellrecht as she helps to form a CE Committee in the Encounter Cell Church. Also pray as she trains members to begin teaching in their Bible Academy [Sunday School]. Praise the Lord for the group of young boys, ages 9 & 10 years old, who just accepted Christ as their Savior.

  • The Misson and a college (US) affiliated with the C&MA are working together to begin a Study Abroad Program here in the DR in August 2010. Pray for John & Colleen Schleh and Brad & Dorothy Wood, as they work through the many details to make this a success.

  • Pray for Zac and Julie Stutler as they work to lay a good foundation for the ministry in Punta Cana. They are grateful that they were able to meet many new people and also spend quality time with friends as they attended many different holiday activities in the community. Pray that God would use the Bible studies in Punta Cana to bring people into His kingdom and to build His church. Pray that God would continue to lead them to people who are hungry to know Christ and that He would speak through them. Pray for a much needed team to work along side them.
