To all of our Alliance brothers and sisters, warm greetings from your friends and partners in ministry in the Dominican Republic!
Our main focus in the Dominican National Church is to have strong missions-minded leaders who are living out the character of Christ, and to complete the Great Commission, by going to the ends of the world and preaching the Gospel. We strive to reach these objectives by preparing leaders through theological education and ministerial training, building up the leadership in love and harmony, planting churches in the main provinces of our country, and working shoulder to shoulder to reach our goal of extending the Kingdom of God.
God bless you,
Rev. Eduardo Marte Rondón
The Alliance entered the Dominican Republic in the latter 19th century. In 1891 worship services and Sunday School began in the province of Montecristi, and over the next twenty years Alliance ministries extended to Santiago, Santo Domingo, Pedro de Macorís, and the southwestern area of the island. In 1915 Alliance founder Dr. Albert B. Simpson reported to Council, “I regret to inform you we’ve had to close our work in Dominican Republic because the missionaries we had there died.” Dr. Simpson closed his 1915 Council report with, “Would to God that someday we’ll be able to re-enter the Dominican Republic.” Fifty years later, God began to answer Dr. Simpson’s prayer. In 1965, a Dominican living in New York City felt a call to reopen the Alliance work in his native land. He was sent as an official missionary in February 1968.
Small groups of Haitian immigrant believers in San Pedro de Macorís joined the Alliance, as did another group of believers in the capital city of Santo Domingo. The leaders of the Santo Domingo group, all ages 34 and under, had little or no experience in ministry; nevertheless, they loved Christ and had a desire to evangelize their community. This small but determined group launched the Alliance ministry from a member’s home located on the eastern side of Santo Domingo. On May 5, 1970, the Dominican government officially recognized the C&MA and granted it corporate status. Due to the tireless evangelistic efforts of these early leaders, there are now many established and growing churches throughout numerous regions in the Dominican Republic.
